Family fun, music, shopping and pets round out this year’s annual Tecumseh Sidewalk Sales, being held July 15 and 16 throughout downtown. The Tecumseh tradition dates back to the 1950s and attracts patrons from the local area and beyond.

The event kicks off Friday morning at 9 a.m. when 32 downtown Tecumseh merchants open their doors and bring  wares to the sidewalks. Some stores will have earlier opening times and extended hours.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh will host a Cornhole game, the “Buy Near By Guy” will visit from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. to promote shopping locally, and from 4 p.m. until midnight a Summer Street Party sponsored by Evans Street Station fires up the night with a beer tent and barbeque. Scoobie Snaks will entertain with live music from 7 to 11:30 p.m.

All-day activities both days include a giant sand box for kids by Grey Fox Floral and Pachinko by the Depot.

Starting up Saturday, Sidewalk Sales again run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. A “Say Cheese!” Pet Portrait Exhibition of multimedia art by local artists will be inside and in front of The Boulevard Market all day, and the annual Pet Parade starts at 10 a.m. This year’s theme for the parade is “The 60s” with pets dressed up to match the theme. Tecumseh Lions Club and Tecumseh Arbor of Gleaner Life Insurance Society are Pet Parade event sponsors, with Red Mill Pet Supplies and Companion Animal Clinic providing the prizes.

The Market on Evans, the farmers market on North Evans Street, will sell produce and other local products Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Games on Saturday include a Bean Bag Toss by Tecumseh Parks and Recreation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ladder Ball by First Federal Bank from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Cornhole by the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh also from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Pinewood Derby fans will have a cars-and-race-track event on South Evans Street starting at 1 p.m., sponsored by Tecumseh Plywood and hosted by the Charlie Rebottaro family.

Again on Saturday, Evans Street Station will host a Summer Street Party with a beer tent and barbeque starting at noon and continuing until midnight. Live music by All Directions will close out the night, starting at 7 p.m. and lasting until 11:30 p.m..
