Stephen M. Hartman
Stephen M. Hartman, age 83 of Tecumseh, passed away on May 1, 2024 at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. Steve was born in Adrian on September 20, 1940 to Harold and Lucille (Clegg) Hartman. On June 16, 1961 he married Constance L. Herdon and they have shared 62 years together.
Steve was a Vietnam veteran proudly serving in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34, past Chef de Gare of Voiture 997 40/8 and a member of the Brooklyn Eagles and Moose. Steve retired from General Motors in 1993 after 28 ½ years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his wife, Connie, he is survived by two sons, Steve (Dawn) Hartman of Ann Arbor and Tom Hartman of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughter, Allyse (Jay) Johnson of Tecumseh; and two great-grandchildren, Jolei and William Johnson of Tecumseh. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hartman.
Memorial visitation for Steve was held on Tuesday, May 7, at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. A memorial service followed with Pastor Alan Maki officiating. Military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #34 and the VFW Post #4187 followed the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery Columbarium in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee and the Tecumseh American Legion. Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
