Steven A. Lopez
Steven A. Lopez, age 54, of Ridgeway, passed away December 4, 2023 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti, surrounded by his family. He was born September 10, 1969, in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of Atanacio and Minerva (Castro) Lopez.
He was the youngest out of 18 kids, loved family gatherings, enjoyed outdoors sitting on the swing and always smiling. He was a huge Detroit Lions and Michigan fan (Go Blue)! Steven was the last of 18 siblings to graduate from Tecumseh High School and his parents were given honorary degrees along with him. He received a $20 check from President Ronald Reagan for his accomplishment and congratulations to his parents as well for getting all 18 kids to graduate from high school. Steven did detail work for Briarwood Ford and was a groundskeeper for the City of Tecumseh.
Steven liked to travel with his big brother Tony and girlfriend Mary.
He is survived by six sisters, Angelita McCoy of Imlay City; Alice Flint of Tecumseh; Minnie (Jim) Freshcorn of Britton; Dolores (Larry Shea) Righter of Tipton; Mary (Doug) Feight and Linda (Dave) Corder, both of Manitou Beach; nine brothers, Atanacio Jr. (Yolanda) of Napoleon; Antonio (Mary Carl) of Ridgeway; Alex (Carol) of Britton; John (Joyce) of Adrian; Reiney (Cheryl) of Tecumseh; Louie (Roberta) of Adrian; Isabel (Sheryl) of Paw Paw; Tom Lopez of Britton; Michael (Laura) Lopez of Tecumseh; and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minerva, in 1989; father Atanacio in 1996; brothers, Santos in 2005 and Joe in 2018; and brothers-in-law, Tom McCoy and Marty Flint.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, 2023 at Purse Martinez Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Funeral service will follow the visitation on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at starting at 2 p.m. with Pastor Isabel Lopez officiating.
Interment will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery.
