Tecumseh grad on All-Star team

TECUMSEH — Tecumseh High School (THS) graduate Sam Benschoter was recently selected to be a team member for Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 35th Annual East-West All-Star Baseball Classic on July 6 at Comerica Park.
 
Benschoter, who signed with Michigan State University, was a pitcher on the West team. Game results were not available by the Herald’s press deadline.
 
Scott Salow (Homer), the head coach for the West team, had nine pitchers on the roster.
 
Benschoter finished his career at THS with the most strikeouts as a pitcher with 252 and second in a season this year with 122. He is also second in wins for a career with 20 and third in innings pitched with 167.1.  He is also up there for a few offensive categories: second in career home runs with 17 and fourth with career RBI with 95.
 
He was also a second team Michigan High School Division (MHSAA) 2 All-State member. 
 
Benschoter (P) and Trey Mitchell (Inf) were selected as All-Region players and were also named to the All-District team with teammate Jordan Patterson. 
 
Benschoter, Mitchell and Aaron Luci were named to the All-SEC (Southeastern Conference) team this year while Lukas Coker, Will Sparrow, Patterson and Spencer Cowen received honorable mentions.
