William “Bill” Hamilton

William “Bill” Hamilton, 81, of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away peacefully at his home on October 13, 2025.

Born on January 15, 1944, in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, Bill was one of five children born to the late William and Isabella (Gillespie) Hamilton. In 1960, he moved to Oscoda, Mich., to be closer to his family who had emigrated from Scotland. While living in Oscoda, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a medic from 1965 to 1967.

After his service, Bill returned to Oscoda, where he worked as a carpenter before joining Cooper Standard (ITT Automotive), where he later met and married his wife on May 9, 2008. Following his retirement, Bill moved to Clio and eventually settled in Tecumseh, where he and his wife made their home.

Bill was quick-witted and fun-loving, always ready with a laugh or a good comeback. A proud grandpa, great-grandpa, and uncle, he brought love and laughter to everyone around him. He loved his fill-ins, tinkering in the yard, and solving problems of any kind. A true craftsman, Bill took pride in fixing and creating things with his own hands.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Isabella (Gillespie) and William Hamilton; his sisters, Betty David, Ivy Hennessy, and Agnes “Nancy” Gough; his brother, Andrew Hamilton; and his great-grandson, Rydder Stevens Ames.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Chrysler) Hamilton; his son, William Craig Hamilton; and stepdaughters, Ila (Robert) Wetter, Dena Wetter, Tara Wetter, and Niki Wetter. He also leaves behind grandchildren Darrin (Katie) Wilson Jr., Kayla Raushi, Amanda Wetter, Daniel (Carly) Wetter, Amber Stevens, Jonathan Stevens, Krista Stevens, Henry Keenan Jr., Danny Keenan, Keegan Keenan, Jordan (Ashley) Riley, Troy Vette, and Lauren Vette; nieces Eleanor Stewart, Gillian Gough, Heather Halverson Elazer; nephews Robert David and William Halverson; great-nieces Nicolle Sheafor and Shayna Dame, and great-nephews Joshua Eleazer and Riley Halverson. Bill also leaves behind 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. His family will be returning his cremated remains to Scotland for a private ceremony.
