William A. Prong

William Ashley Prong, age 90, of Clinton, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his home under the care of his family and Harmony Cares Hospice. He was born on February 23, 1935, in Milan, Mich., the son of the late Arthur J. and Ada (Ashley) Prong. On November 4, 1955, he was joined in marriage with Mary Lavinia Klanke at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bridgewater, Mich., and they enjoyed over sixty-nine years together.
Bill worked at a number of jobs over the years, early on he worked at the Hayden Mill in Tecumseh and then went to the Thomas Co. in Clinton. He spent many years with the Budd Co. in Quality Control and ended with his employment at McNaughton and Gunn in Saline.
Bill was a dedicated member of St. John’s Church in Bridgewater and he was also proud of being a regular blood donor. He and Mary bought the old Lancaster school and they enjoyed spending many hours remodeling it and making it their lifelong home. For Bill, his family was his greatest love and they always came first. Bill and his wife enjoyed helping their son at his antique shop on US 12. His other interests included woodworking, beekeeping, working in his garden and tending to his fish pond.
In his addition to his wife, Mary, Bill is survived by his children, Mary (Ray) Fetters, Sue (John) Scheck, and William (Kay) Prong Jr., all of Clinton, Mich.; grandchildren, Daniel (Grey) Becker of Ypsilanti, Mich., Isaac (Conner) Becker-Chamberlin of Greenwood, Ind., Kristy (Paul) Schneider of Clinton, and Racine (Mike) Curtis of Onsted, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Kaylin Hall of Clinton, and Zakary Hall of Hudson, Mich.; and a great-great-grandchild, Mason Hall of Clinton; two brothers, Bob (Sheri) Prong of Virginia Beach, Va., and Keith Prong of Tecumseh, Mich.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Betty Schuch and Joan Hall.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 17 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bridgewater, officiated by Pastor Drex Morton. Visitation will be held at the church on the same day beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh.
