Melvin Alden Murphy
Melvin Alden Murphy, age 86, of Tecumseh passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at Tecumseh Place I. He was born September 11, 1931 in Tecumseh to the late Melvin R. and Norma (Skinner) Murphy. On Feb. 3, 1951 he married Peggy Sue MacLean and they shared 54 years together before her passing on May 17, 2005.
Melvin loved golfing, bowling and especially making model airplanes. For several years he helped with the youth bowling in the Tecumseh area. In his early years he coached little league. He had a special love for animals, especially dogs.
Melvin is survived by his children, Patrick (Cathy) Murphy of Brooklyn, Mark Murphy of Manitou Beach, Julie (Edward) Arbour of Ypsilanti and Sean (Staci) Murphy of Tecumseh; a sister, Beverly Swindeman of Tecumseh; six grandchildren, Matt (DeAnn) Murphy, Melissa (Benny) Morgan, Adam Arbour, Kristy Arbour and Devin Murphy and Veronica Adams; five great-grandchildren, Alexander and Brady Murphy, Ryan, Andrew and James Morgan.
A private graveside service will be held at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the care of the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Condolences may be made to the family at www.handlerfuneralhomes.com.
