Paul D. Salters

Paul Dean Salters, age 84, of rural Adrian, died Friday morning, November 15, 2024, at his home while under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born February 12, 1940, in Burnwell, W.Va., the son of Leo and Ruby (Messer) Salters. Paul married Joyce Louise Wellna on January 10, 1959, in Tawas City, Mich. Together they raised five children and created over 63 years of lasting memories before her passing on October 31, 2022.

Paul honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1965. During his military service, he served in Okinawa and notably stood honor guard in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol during the wake services of President John F. Kennedy. Returning to civilian life, he was employed as a UA Local 669 Sprinkler Fitter. Paul was an active parishioner and devoted volunteer of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh. An outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish in his leisure time. In more recent years, Paul enjoyed trying his luck at nearby casino trips. Paul is endearingly remembered as a very caring and gentle person, who selflessly gave of himself in every opportunity he could.

Surviving are two sons, Bryon (Ann) Salters of Brooklyn and Kevin (Kathy) Salters of Blissfield; daughters, Kimberley (Mark) Vanderpool of Sterling Heights and Cheryl (Craig) Brown of Brooklyn; 11 grandchildren, Tyrel, Steven, Lindsay, Garrett, Stephanie, Ashleigh, Tiffany, Marcus, Cole, Cj, and Cassandra; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Julie Ann Salters; two brothers; and his sister.

The family received friends for memorial visitation at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. until Mass began at noon. Mass was be celebrated by Father Dan Wheeler. Rite of committal will follow at Brookside Cemetery, accompanied by Military Honors conducted by the Brooklyn American Legion Post 315.
