Louise L. Vershum

Louise Lucille Vershum, age 98, of Britton, Mich. passed away peacefully in the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee at the Hospice Home with her family by her side on December 10, 2024. She was born on January 2, 1926 in Macon Twp., Mich. a daughter of the late Henry Otto and Haddie P. (Opel) Miller.  

Louise was joined in marriage to Lewis Arthur Vershum on June 7, 1947 and they shared 53 years together before his passing in 2001. She was a very active lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and she especially enjoyed all of the Ladies Aid activities. Louise was the best homemaker and loved to bake pies and cookies to share. She enjoyed being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed snowmobiling and she and Lewis traveled to Hawaii on their 25th wedding anniversary. Louise worked for the University of Michigan Health Study in Tecumseh for several years and then went to work at United Savings Bank as a teller for many years.

Louise is survived by two sons, Raymond Vershum of Mound, Minn., and Philip (Kristen) Vershum of Adrian, Mich.; a daughter, Rita (Tom) Horton of Clinton, Mich.; a sister, Charlotte Vershum of Manchester, Mich.; nine grandchildren, David (Callie) Vershum and Carol (Bruce) Shaffer both of Minnetrista, Minn., Laura (Brandon) Martin of Lake Zurich, Ill., Matt (Samantha) Vershum of Shepherdsville, Ky., Jessica (Nathan) Galusha of Lowell, Mich., Benjamin (Sara) Horton of Chicago, Ill., Kimberly (Josh) Phillip of Tipton, Mich., Rachel (Travis) Havens of Dundee, Mich., Ryan (Alisa Maxwell) Wonderly of Blissfield Mich.; son-in-law, Rick Wonderly of Britton, Mich.; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Louise was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Wonderly, infant son, Roger, and three brothers, Walter, Herman and Fred Miller.

Visitation for Louise was from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Britton, Mich., with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor David McCarty. Burial in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh, Mich. took place on Monday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions in honor of Louise may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.   Online condolences may be offered to the family at handlerfuneralhomes.com.
