UAW workers at Kirchhoff Automotive walked off their jobs Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to protest poor working conditions, along with health and safety issues. Negotiations for a new contract have failed. Several picketers complained Monday of a new work schedule that begins at 4 a.m. for four-day, 10-hour shifts. Picketers also complained about longer hours, insufficient pay and difficulty in finding day care for children at the new starting time. Calls to Kirchhoff for comment Tuesday were not returned.
