Clinton boys and girls place third at Wildcat Booster Invitational

CLINTON — Both Clinton’s varsity boys and girls track teams placed third at Onsted’s Wildcat Booster Invitational on Friday, May 6.
 
Madison won the girls division with a score of 120 while Tecumseh placed second with 70. Clinton was third with 69.
 
For the boys, Coldwater placed first with 122 points while Tecumseh was second with 107. The Redskins totaled 89 points.
 
Amanda Schaare placed first in the discus (127’8”) and shot put (35’11”) for the Redskins’ girls.
 
Mathew Sexton had a banner day for the Redskins’ boys, winning the 100-meter (11.05), 200-meter (23.0) and anchoring a first place performance in the 400-meter relay with a new meet record time of 44.23. Huntter Trubiano, Kenny DeShano and Noah Poore rounded out the winning 400-meter relay team. 
 
Poore won the long jump against a strong field of 14 teams, jumping 20’2” for gold medal status. Lucas Crumb placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.7 while Trubiano placed fourth with a time of 16.2. 
 
Clinton’s 800-meter relay team of Trubiano, Poore, DeShano and Sexton placed second with a season best time of 1:32.7 while Trubiano (43.6) and Crumb (43.8) placed third and fourth respectively in the 300-meter hurdles. 
 
The Redskins’ 1600-meter relay team of Gene Dudek, Brad Gilbert, Blake Rogers and DeShano placed fourth with a season best time of 3:38. 
 
Clinton’s girls team improved its Tri-County Conference (TCC) record to 4-2 with wins against Whitmore Lake and Britton Deerfield (BD) on Tuesday.
 
Payton VanStaveren led the way by winning four events. She won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, the long jump and led off the winning 400-meter relay with teammates Tessia Struck, Makayla Thompson and Arielle Hitch.
 
“It was a tremendous performance by our team,” said Clinton coach Mike Krauss. “Our athletes rose to the challenge, we will get back to work tomorrow to prepare for regionals.”
 
Hitch won the 100-meter high hurdles and helped teammates Struck, Thompson and Jessica Burt win the 800-meter relay. Schaare won both the shot put and discus while Abby Elwart claimed first place on the pole vault.
 
Placing second for Clinton were Chelsea Scheffler (100 highs), Lindsey Burton (400), Kirsten Hickman (shot put) and Brianna Burton (high jump), the 3,200-meter relay team of Hailey Skiff, Ali Elwart, Shianne Muessig and Bri McNatt. 
 
Placing third for Clinton were Lindsey Burton (100 and long jump), Brianna Burton (400), Nikole Hartung (800), McNatt (1,600), Muessig (3,200) and Hitch (300 low hurdles). 
 
Clinton’s varsity boys team defeated Whitmore Lake 96-40 and BD 108-25 to improve its TCC record to 4-2. 
 
Recording first places for the Redskins were Joe Spence (shot put, 41’3” and discus, 125’), Poore (long jump, 19’2”), Sexton (high jump, 5’10” and 100, 11’), Noah Comar (pole vault, 9’), Trubiano (110 hurdles, 16.9 and 300 hurdles, 43.7), Blake Rogers (400, 55.0) Dudek (1,600, 4:53 and 800, 2;11), the 800-meter relay team of Poore, Rogers, Brad Gilbert and Trevor Underwood (1:41) and the 400-meter relay team of Underwood, Trubiano, Poore and Sexton (46.1). 
 
Second places went to Riley Mclaughlin in the shot put and Underwood in the 200-meter. 
 
Third place Clinton winners were Veneri Korkee (long jump, 300 hurdles and pole vault), Liam Tapp (discus), Noah Smith (3,200), Fletcher Mellinger (800), Brad Gilbert (400) and Poore (100).
