Indians' girls advance to district semifinal, lose to Jonesville

HILLSDALE — Tecumseh’s varsity girls basketball team defeated Hillsdale on Monday in the opening round of Class B Districts at Hillsdale, dominating the contest for a 64-21 victory. The Indians (6-6 SEC, 17-8 overall) finished the season on Wednesday with a 46-36 loss to Jonesville (18-2) at Hillsdale in the district semifinal.
 
Tecumseh junior Olivia Mills led the Indians’ offense against Jonesville with 17 points and five rebounds. Complete results will be reported in the Tecumseh Herald next week.
 
Freshman Abbie McDowell led Tecumseh to the victory against Hillsdale with 33 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, four steals and four blocks. Mills added 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals for Tecumseh while junior Paige Otto added 11 points.
 
Tecumseh dominated Adrian on Friday, Feb. 26, for a huge 54-16 on-the-road Southeastern Conference (SEC) victory.
 
A three-pointer from the Indians was basically the only difference in scoring in the opening quarter with the Maples missing two free throws to end the first quarter down 9-6. Tecumseh held the Maples to just two free throws in the second quarter and closed the first half leading 24-8.
 
Tecumseh outscored Adrian 21-3 in the third quarter and easily secured the win with a 9-5 scoring effort in the final quarter.
 
McDowell led Tecumseh’s offense with 19 points and eight rebounds while Otto added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Mills finished with 10 points, five assists and two steals for Tecumseh while senior Morgan Skelton added eight rebounds.
 
The Indians edged Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central 36-34 at home on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
 
Mills led Tecumseh’s offense with 11 points and two assists.
