Redskins win 11th consecutive district championship

CLINTON — It was just another day at the park for Clinton’s varsity softball team on Saturday, June 4, during the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 District championship.
 
Clinton defeated Columbia Central 8-0 and won its 11th consecutive district title with little celebration after the dust settled.
Renee Hoffman pitched a no-hitter for the shutout victory. It was her fourth no-hitter of the season with one walk and nine strikeouts.
 
The Redskins scored in all but two innings. Clinton took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first inning and added another run in the second inning. Two more runs were added in the third and fifth innings while one run was scored in the sixth to complete scoring, as the Redskins didn’t need to bat in the final frame.
 
The Redskins’ offense was led by Ashleigh Donahey. She went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI while Rilee Szczesniak was also 2-for-3. Hoffman added a RBI triple; Caitlyn Schuler hit a RBI double; Lindsey Branscum added a two-out two RBI double; Sarah Turner added a RBI double and Stapnowski, Hayley Turk and Burton each added a hit. 
 
To get to the title game, Clinton defeated Manchester 12-2 in a five-inning mercy rule district semifinal. 
 
Hoffman pitched the win. She threw for the first three innings and allowed  two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Megan Burton pitched in relief in the bottom of the fourth inning to finish the game. She gave up one hit while striking out four.
 
Clinton’s offense was led by Donahey. She was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run hit in the fifth inning. Turk was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI; Hoffman was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI; Stapnowski was 3-for-4; Branscum was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Caitlyn Schuler added a RBI double.
 
On Wednesday, June 1, Clinton lost 7-1 against Monroe in its final regular season game.
 
Hoffman recorded the loss, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out eight.
 
The Redskins were led at the plate by Schuler. She went 2-for-3 while Turk added a single and Clinton’s lone RBI. Stapnowski, Hoffman and Branscum each added a single.
 
Clinton (37-3, 14-0 TCC) will play next at Adrian/Madison in the regional semifinal against Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy on Saturday, June 11, at 10 a.m. The winner will face either Monroe Saint Mary Catholic Central or Grass Lake in the regional championship at 1 p.m.
