The Reach for the Sky Canopy Walk at Hidden Lake Gardens opened to the public on June 20, and since then the new feature high in the trees has been a boon for the 755-acre arboretum and botanical garden.

The sign for Hidden Lake Gardens in Tipton is a familiar sight to those traveling on M-50, and the story of the massive boulder at the entrance and how it came to its resting place at the gardens is one that has a witness: Anna Mae Bertalon, then Letherer, who was seven years old in 1949.

Two years ago the start of the annual Spring Flower Bulb Show at Michigan State University’s Hidden Lake Gardens was thwarted due to shutdowns across the state, but Saturday, March 12 will mark the beginning of a return to normalcy at HLG.

Construction of the Reach for the Sky tree tower and canopy walk at Michigan State University’s Hidden Lake Gardens (HLG) was delayed for two years after the coronavirus pandemic halted the project, but now plans are moving forward to break ground in May.

The annual Spring Bulb Show at Hidden Lake Gardens (HLG) in Tipton will go on as planned, despite extensive damage to plants in the conservatory and the service greenhouse due to failure of the boiler system during a late-January arctic freeze.
