Two Tecumseh parks are in the process of getting upgrades and Parks and Recreation Director Sarah Gilmore is thrilled to see the progress. The first visible change is a new timber frame pavilion at Evans Park, just north of the Evans Street bridge at Red Mill Dam.

With the help of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Tecumseh Park bathrooms will be renovated using a Recreation Passport grant. This $75,000 grant will help install new bathrooms in the existing building.

Tecumseh’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met July 27, with agenda topics including mountain bike trails at Beardsley Park, selective tree harvesting in city parks, public access at Red Mill Dam, phragmites at Indian Crossing Trails Park and a bike route through Tecumseh.

Smoking near city buildings and in Tecumseh’s parks may be history if the city follows what other municipalities have done to curb the habit on their property.
