LANSING, Mich. — After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday issued a new executive order rescinding much of her stay-at-home order, allowing retailers to reopen on June 4 and restaurants to reopen on June 8 — with certain capacity limits, Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, issued the following statement:

I am shocked, appalled and angry. I am shocked, appalled and angered by the actions of those former Minneapolis police officers. Mr. George Floyd should not be dead. There is no place in law enforcement, no place in society, no place as a human being where those actions are justified.

I simply must shred the fearmongering “collateral damage” May 21 editorial from C.F. Gehrke. Several things are worth mentioning. What Dr. Gehrke doesn’t understand is that some people actually NEED to work. Mr. Gehrke is a retired M.D. with the means to weather this economic shutdown.

Often, it takes a national crisis, to expose the systemic flaws of society’s most trusted systems. We have seen the nation’s food supply chain collapse as a result of this pandemic, but it has really exposed more about the American psychology about agriculture and what eat or, more, want to eat
