Gary Naugle has been organizing Memorial Day parades in Tecumseh for 24 years, and this year is no exception. The Tecumseh resident is the official parade marshal and dedicates his time each year to making sure that veterans in the area are honored and recognized.

This year on May 25, Memorial Day in Tecumseh will be silent. The annual parade and wreath-laying ceremony have been cancelled due to COVID-19.
“It’s kind of upsetting,” said Gary Naugle, organizer of the yearly event. “The city can’t encourage people to gather.”

Tecumseh’s tradition of honoring veterans on Memorial Day will include a flyover by eight to 10 aircraft during the ceremony at Brookside Cemetery, 501 N. Union St., Monday, May 27, which will follow the annual Memorial Day parade to begin at 10 a.m.

Tecumseh’s Memorial Day Parade will take place Monday, May 29 beginning at 10 a.m. at city hall, 309 E. Chicago Blvd., traveling through downtown on Chicago Boulevard and followed by a special ceremony at Brookside Cemetery, 501 N. Union St.
