Despite the affluence of the Tecumseh community, food insecurity and homelessness exist, and these were thrust into the spotlight Monday night when the city council heard from a pair of community members who work with these populations.

Thanksgiving is often thought of as a time of plenty, with cornucopias of fall vegetable harvests and crispy, golden roasted turkeys dancing through our heads, surrounded by fresh rolls, salads, and side dishes galore, finished off with endless pies.

Food insecurity is the lack of access to sufficient food because of limited financial resources. The Tecumseh area has its share of residents experiencing food insecurity, and local churches and organizations are doing their best to help combat hunger by providing food for those who need it.

As the holidays approach, Tecumseh Service Club is once again working hard to give a helping hand to families in need. Families are adopted by community organizations and individuals to provide food and gifts for those struggling to get by on a daily basis.
