The new state of the art, 32,000 square-foot YMCA on North Adrian Highway is set to open at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, after years of planning and months of construction just north of the newly-opened ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital.

“A lot has changed since August,” said Dr. Julie Yaroch, president of ProMedica Bixby and Herrick Hospitals, referring to construction of the new ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital, which began with a groundbreaking in June 2017.

The planned shelter for women and children, to be opened in the vacant Herrick Manor building attached to ProMedica Herrick Hospital, is still awaiting a closing date to finalize the transaction between ProMedica and nonprofit Neighbors of Hope (NOH) before necessary renovations can begin.

Members of the Lenawee County Health Authority on Thursday, March 29, gave unanimous approval to issue tax-exempt bonds to ProMedica Health System for the construction of the ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital on M-52.

A decision by ProMedica to limit its employees’ choice of pharmacies will have a negative effect on local pharmacy businesses, in essence, biting the hand of at least one local pharmacist who has financially supported the nonprofit for many years.

Tecumseh City Council took an about-face Monday when officials rescinded a November 6 vote that had determined a transitional/emergency temporary housing facility, or shelter, was not compatible with Office-Service District (OS-1) zoning.

ProMedica Health System announced it will close its 10-bed inpatient psychiatric unit at Herrick Hospital by June 30. The health system will continue to provide crisis intervention services to area patients at Herrick’s and Bixby’s emergency departments.
