Tecumseh Public Schools announced on October 5 that according to the Fall Count Day on October 3, the district has 2,800 students enrolled for the start of the 2018-19 school year. That number is 157 students less than last year’s count.

A group of parents have likely gathered more than enough signatures to force four Tecumseh Public School Board members to run for re-election on November 6. If the signatures are certified by Lenawee County Clerk Roxann Holloway, all seven board seats will be on the ballot.

Dedication plaques at Herrick Park, Patterson, Sutton and Tecumseh Acres elementary schools were removed by Tecumseh Public Schools as part of a reorganization plan in 2017. The Herald learned this week that the plaques had been taken down.

Petitions to recall four Tecumseh School Board members were approved on Wednesday, May 2 by the Lenawee County Election Commission led by Probate Judge Gregg Iddings. They ruled that language in the petitions was clear and all facts were valid.

The Tecumseh Board of Education on Monday sent a firm message that they would “not be swayed by a small minority” to a group of parents who want to revert back to a traditional curriculum and grading system. However, it seems those parents aren’t taking “no” for an answer.
