The city of Tecumseh will be measuring its water and sewer rates against the need to upgrade its aging system, after the city council approved a proposal from Tetra Tech for an analysis of how the city might finance the needed improvements over the next few years.

Tecumseh’s millage rate —the factor by which property taxes are determined for taxpayers —won’t be going up in the next fiscal year, but water and sewer bills will reflect a 3.9 percent increase starting July 1.

Just like Old Faithful, water and sewer rates are going up. The city has made it clear to expect annual increases to cover increasing costs of operations and maintenance due to growing costs for personnel, contractual applications and supplies.

Tecumseh city council approved a 3 percent increase to the cost of water and sewer rates within the city on Monday, June 6. The rise in costs will begin July 1, and will go from $1.79 per 1,000 gallons to $1.84 per 1,000 gallons.
