Tecumseh’s millage rate —the factor by which property taxes are determined for taxpayers —won’t be going up in the next fiscal year, but water and sewer bills will reflect a 3.9 percent increase starting July 1.

Mechanical problems with equipment that assist boilers in heating the water at the Tecumseh Community Pool have kept the pool closed for the past three weeks and a date for its reopening is unknown, according to a press release issued Monday from Tecumseh Public Schools (TPS).

Just like Old Faithful, water and sewer rates are going up. The city has made it clear to expect annual increases to cover increasing costs of operations and maintenance due to growing costs for personnel, contractual applications and supplies.

Frigid weather and heavy snowfall amounts bring special challenges to city service providers and local businesses. Keeping streets cleared of snow, water pipes flowing, fires at bay and furnaces running gives those in charge of such things some extra work during the winter.
