Tecumseh's varsity boys swimming and diving team won the Southern Michigan Independent Swim League relays to kick off its 2008 competitions and the Indians capped off their regular season by picking up the title as hosts of the SMISL championships on Saturday, March 1.
Tecumseh High School’s varsity girls bowling team won the Division 2 state championship last Friday, Feb. 29. The very next day the Indians had sophomore Kara Richard record two 300 games and a state record setting 1486 six-game series. Kara is shown with her parent and assistant coach Ken Richard. CLINTON — Attorneys for Brad Rounds, 47, of Clinton asked Judge James Sheridan in Lenawee County’s District Court 2A Monday for a 30 day adjournment on his preliminary exam in order to wait on a review of medical records.
Rounds was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 20, for allegedly planning a murder-for-hire scheme. He was arraigned in Lenawee County District Court the following Thursday and charged with murder solicitation. Bond was set at $500,000. Rounds posted bond and was out of jail Tuesday, Feb. 26, according to court records.
Trustees of the Lenawee Intermediate School District Board of Education were at an impasse for a time Monday night when asked to take action on a recommendation to proceed with the demolition of the old Sutton School which sits on the Milton C. Porter campus on Sutton Road. This took place at the board’s regular monthly meeting following pleas by some local individuals to consider providing area preservationists more time to come up with funding and a viable plan for reuse of the building.
Two bond proposals will be on the ballot May 6, requesting that voters approve the issuing of bonds for infrastructure projects at Tecumseh Public Schools. Proposal I would require levying an additional 0.98 mills, or 98 cents for each $1,000 of taxable valuation, for 22 years, while Proposal II would require levying 1.99 mills, or $1.99 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for 22 years. District officials state that the bond program does not increase a taxpayer’s current millage rate.
A huge cast of 36 players, supported by 25 tech members, will take to the stage this weekend in the contemporary musical love story Aida by Elton John & Tim Rice. Presented by the Tecumseh Youth Theatre, under the direction of Donna Andre and producer Kathy Field, Aida features lead players (pictured l-r) Deanna Shelle and Matt Felkey, playing Amneris and Radames, respectively, and Laura Sawinski as Aida. CLINTON — A Clinton man is out on bail after being charged last week in an alleged murder-hire-scheme. Brad Rounds, 47, posted bail on a $500,000 bond Tuesday, according to the Lenawee County Second District Court in Adrian.
In response to the recent recall of 143 million lbs. of beef - it is difficult to understand how and why in this 21st century humans are still viewing animals as “ours” to use for whatever purpose we deem fit. The treatment of animals in “factory farms” and slaughterhouses is nothing new and neither is the threat to our health from eating meat produced in these horrific conditions.
The following events are being held by American Cancer Society Relay For Life teams to raise funds for the mission of the American Cancer Society. All proceeds from the event to be held May 9-10 in Tecumseh will go to the American Cancer Society. • A silent auction will be held March 10-16 at 265 W. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh by the Pamida Relay team. The hours of the auction will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Merchandise is donated by local vendors including Coke, Pepsi, Miller beer and Budweiser.
Hospice of Lenawee will hold a grieving workshop for families on Tuesday, March 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hospice, 415 Mill Rd., Adrian. The purpose of the workshop is to provide information on grief and family dynamics. There is no fee to attend but registration is required by calling Kathy Goetz at 263-2323.
