On behalf of the Tecumseh Key Club, I am writing to thank the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce, especially Vivian and Kaitlin Yarger, for their support of our club at the Craft and Business Expo on March 1 at the Tecumseh High School.  

We had fun helping with set-up but also enjoyed selling donuts, coffee and hot chocolate. Thanks to them for offering this opportunity to our club and for their generous donation to help support the Key Club.

We are trying to trace descendants of James and Martha Hills,who lived in Tecumseh in 1907.We have two letters written by Martha Hills to her husband James when he was visting England at this time.

Adrian Social Security Office Pre-retirement Seminar

THE ADRIAN SOCIAL Security office is sponsoring a pre-retirement seminar for Lenawee County residents.  The seminar will be held Tuesday, March 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lenawee Vo-Tech Center.  Reservations are not necessay and there is no cost to attend.

The seminar will provide a detail overview  of Medicare, disability, survivor benefits and benefits to the family.

Little Indian Preschool Registration

LITTLE INDIAN Preschool will hold its registration for active members from 6 to 7 p.m. and returning members from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 12.  New member registration will be held March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Little Indian Preschool is located at 605 Bishop Reed Dr., Tecumseh.

MARGARET M. BROICH

Margaret M. Broich, 68, of Tipton, died unexpectedly Friday, February 29, 2008, at Herrick Hospital. She was born October 15, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Noel and Elizabeth (Lee) Keifer.

She graduated from Toledo Catholic Central High School in 1957. On May 30, 1958, Margaret married Edward Broich at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio and he survives.

JOHN EDWARD KOONS

John Edward Koons, 74, of Adrian, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Bixby Medical Center.  Born December 31, 1933, in Peoria, IL, to Wilbur and Hazel (Edwards) Koons.  The family moved to the Clinton area where John grew up.  He attended Clinton Schools playing football, golf and bowling, graduating in 1952.
John married Frances Craig on May 2, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adrian.  Together they raised three sons, Victor, Thomas and Mark in Adrian.

THELMA LEOTA (RICKARD) LIDSTER

Thelma Leota (Rickard) Lidster, 96 of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on February 29, 2008, in the Provincial House of Adrian, Michigan. Thelma was born March 31, 1911, in Deerfield, Michigan to the late Hayes McDonald and Mary Ellanora (Blanton) Rickard.

JOSEPH MARK MCDONNELL

Joseph Mark McDonnell, 49, of Adrian, passed away, Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center.  He was born February 15, 1959, in Adrian, to Joseph and Mary (Gritzmaker) McDonnell.  On October 12, 2005, he married Sandra Solarski in Toledo, Ohio.  

He was employed as a maintenance and grounds keeper with St. Joseph Catholic Church.

MARGUERITE PEARL “MAGGIE” RICHARDS

Marguerite Pearl “Maggie” Richards, 88, of Onsted, passed away, Monday, March 3, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center.  She was born on August 22, 1919, in Marion, Ohio to Floyd and Mae (Rowlison) Sipes.   On October 19, 1940, she married Phillip D. Richards in Wauseon, Ohio.  He preceded her in death on June 1, 1982.  

Maggie attended Adrian Schools.  She was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Bauer Manor for several years.  Maggie will be missed by her family, which was the love of her life.  She was also known as the “Cat Lady” of Pentecost Hwy.    

ALVIN T. TRIEMSTRA

Alvin T. Triemstra, 66, of Portage, died March 1, 2008, at Battle Creek V.A. Medical Center Hospice. Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

RUBEN ROJAS SR.

Ruben Rojas Sr., 77, of Adrian, died Saturday, March 01, 2008, at Tendercare of Adrian.  He was born February 9, 1931, in Thrall, Texas, to Tomas and Lonjina (Nieto) Rojas.  

He had been employed by Ford Motor Company in Saline for 39 years. After his retirement from Ford Motor Company, Ruben traveled extensively throughout the continental United States, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Australia. He enjoyed listening to his Tejano music and attending Mexican dances.

RUDOLPH S. TOMKO

Rudolph S. Tomko, 79, of Clinton, died February 28, 2008, at home.  He was born June 3, 1928, in West Leisenring, PA, the son of John and Anna Tomko.  

Rudy was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Aleutian Islands just after WWII.  He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Clinton.  Rudy was retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant.

GERALD LEE FOX

Gerald Lee Fox, 66, of Tecumseh, passed away February 29, 2008, after a brief illness with his loving family surrounding him.  Born May 20, 1941, in Jackson, MI he retired from the Tecumseh Products in 2000 after 40 years of service.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, Tecumseh Club and VFW.  

AARON NICHOLAS GRANBY

Aaron Nicholas Granby, of Tecumseh,  born February 20, 2008, the son of Derek Granby and Amanda Rochowiak passed away February 27, 2008, at University Hospitals, Ann Arbor.  

Aaron is survived by his parents; his identical twin brother, Damien; siblings Dillen and Kaydence; grandparents, Lisa and Chris Rochowiak and  Charlotte and Joseph Bannas.  

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Granby.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with family and friends officiating.  

DORIS M. LOOMIS

Doris M. Loomis, 81 of Dundee, passed away at 4:45 p.m., Monday March 3, 2008 at the Evangelical Home in Saline where she had been for two years. She was born in Ridgeway Township, Michigan November 17, 1926 to Herman and Margaret (Loesch) Pollitz. She married Rex I. Loomis on February 12, 1949 at Hillman, Michigan. He passed away on February 26, 1991.

Doris was a waitress at the former Coffee Cup Restaurant in Dundee which is where she met her future husband. She was a resident at Rawson Place in Dundee where she served as a volunteer with other residents.

BETTIE O'BERRY

Bettie O'Berry, 68, of Waterford, died March 3, 2008, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living, Waterford.  Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements entrusted to J. GIlbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

ELLIS F. SPONSLER

Ellis F. Sponsler, 49, of Onsted, passed away February 26, 2008. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at The Salvation Army, 217 W. Church St. Adrian, MI  49221, with Capt. Gordon Knight officiating. To send condolences and view a full obituary visit www.pursefuneralhome.com.

ARTHUR TAYLOR

Arthur Taylor, 70, of Brooklyn, passed away March 2, 2008.  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Irish Hills. Eagles.  According to his wishes cremation has taken place.  Arrangements were entrusted to the J. JIMMIE TOLSMA

Jimmie Tolsma, 36, of Midland, MI, died Feb. 25, 2005, at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Midland, MI.  Funeral services were held March 2, 2008 at Addison Funeral Home, Angola, N.Y.  Local arrangments were entrusted to J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Tecumseh girls win state bowling championship

The City of Tecumseh recently declared Sunday, March 9, 2008 as Tecumseh High School Girls Varsity Bowling Team Day, after the Indians defeated Coldwater, the three time defending Division 2 champions, in the state finals to bring another championship trophy back to Tecumseh.

Tecumseh's JV girls team won the state championship last weekend and just last year the Indians' varsity softball team picked up the state championship trophy at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
