Betty Cooper, 89, the wife of former pastor, Russell, of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Clinton, has died. She passed away Feb. 10, 2008, in Tucson, Ariz., where they had retired over 20 years ago. A private burial was held on Feb. 15 in Tucson. She and her husband were well-known in the Tecumseh, Tipton and Clinton areas. Donna May Louise Grossman, 83 of Clinton died February 18, 2008 at Provincial House in Adrian. Donna was born in Jackson, Michigan December 4, 1924, the daughter of Floyd and Vera (Gauss) Jacob. She married Milton “Rusty” Grossman June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death January 28, 2008.
Albert D. Ward, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008. Cremation has taken place per his request. Memorial Services took place today at The First United Methodist Church, 275 W. Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI. Arrangements by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Dolores (Lola) Koster, age 79, of Tecumseh, passed away February 18, 2008. She was born December 10, 1928, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Lucio and Erminia Fernandez. On May 25, 1956, she married Ardon Koster in Rea, Michigan. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1997.
Lola was a homemaker and had worked at the D & C Dime store in Tecumseh for several years.
Shawn Michael Jeffords, 35, of Sylvania, Ohio, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Toledo Hospital. He was born September 25, 1972 in Adrian, MI, to Gordon Howard and Bettina Marie (Cook) Jeffords, Jr. On April 6, 1998, he married Sheri Tuckerman and she survives.
He was formally employed by Siena Heights University as a chef. Shawn had a great passion for music and he was very active in the music scene in the Toledo area where he managed groups and produced shows.
Frank F. Kozumplik, Jr., 49, of Adrian, passed away unexpectedly February 15, 2008. He was born May 17, 1958, in Tecumseh, MI, the son of Frank F. and Frances (Horky) Kozumplik, Sr. On August 21, 1976, he married his High School sweetheart Debra Miller. She survives.
Albert (Al) Minor, 85, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family along with Gloria and Lisa, his Hospice Caregivers. Albert was born October 28, 1922 in Jackson, MI to Merle and Charlotte (Lamming) Minor.
He attended Pittsford Schools. On September 27, 1947, he married the love of his life, Lois Pate, in Osseo, Michigan and she survives.
Robert L. Maher, 74 of Tecumseh, died Monday, February 18, 2008 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 1, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of Leonard and Marian (Nordstrand) Maher. He was married to Zoe Ann Burns in April 1964 and she survives.
Robert was a graduate of Michigan State University and was employed by Mobil Oil Company as a Marketing Sales Manager for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, and outdoorsman, a great baseball fan and enjoyed gardening.
Mary L. Scafasci, 89, of Adrian, died Friday, February 15, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Ann Arbor. She was born June 2, 1918 in Vulcan, MI to John and Katherine (Grasian) Sartori. She graduated from Vulcan High School in 1935 and then was married to Albert Scafasci on February 6, 1940 in Loretto, MI. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1994. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Adrian.
LaDonna Sue Strech, 53, of Sand Creek, passed away, Monday, February 11, 2008, at Toledo Hospital. She was born October 6, 1954, in Kenton, OH to Lewis and Donna (Harsh) Simpson. On August 1, 1997, she married Douglas Strech in Toledo, OH. Sue was a member of the Adrian Church of God.
Kelly Kalb of Aramark told the Clinton Community Schools Board of Education at Monday night’s regular meeting that Aramark had received some of the meat that was in question following the recent recall but it had been pulled and never served. The Clinton Community School district subcontracts with Aramark for its lunch programs in all three buildings and Kalb and Clinton Food Service Director Julie Taylor were at the meeting to give their regular quarterly report.
A new study by The Nature Conservancy and the University of Minnesota finds that converting land for biofuel crops results in major carbon emissions, actually worsening the problem of global warming instead of mitigating it. The first-of-its-kind study will be published in Science later this month and was posted online today.
