Potential gravel mining operations in Raisin Township will be placed on “pause,” at least for the next six months, after the township board voted unanimously Monday to declare a six-month moratorium on any mining operations.

Thanks to the July approval of NextEra Energy’s Beecher Solar project by the Raisin Charter Township Planning Commission, the township is set to benefit from the decision to the tune of $400,000.

NextEra Energy’s proposal for a solar development in the southeast section of the township will be on the Raisin Township Planning Commission’s agenda July 9. Since NextEra is seeking a conditional use permit, the planning commission is the sole approving authority.
