Thanks to the July approval of NextEra Energy’s Beecher Solar project by the Raisin Charter Township Planning Commission, the township is set to benefit from the decision to the tune of $400,000.

NextEra Energy’s proposal for a solar development in the southeast section of the township will be on the Raisin Township Planning Commission’s agenda July 9. Since NextEra is seeking a conditional use permit, the planning commission is the sole approving authority.

The Raisin Township Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 11 to consider a proposed solar panel development. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Township Community Center off Gady Road.

Construction has begun on a solar farm on farmland off Bent Oak Highway in Adrian Township, which will eventually hold 71,928 solar panels that are estimated to power 4,000 homes with renewable energy.

Monday night’s Tecumseh Public Schools board meeting resulted in a possible new direction for the solar project. In an update by consultant Mike Smith, he stated that when the project first began it was focused on the high school and middle school.

In a four-to-one vote, the Macon Planning Commission recommended the Macon Township Board to deny a special use permit to Mustang Mile, LLC and Invenergy for a solar farm located within the township.
